Blue Devil: The Movie
Part IV: Nebiros Rising
by David Sopko
PG

The movie crew had built an extension onto the temple for Dan Cassidy to break out of. This was the only part of the film, The Blue Devil, that was actually using the temple exterior, or the temple itself for that matter. All of the inside temple shots were going to be done at a soundstage back at Verner Brothers Studio. They had to get special permission, and have some natives on site when they built the extension to insure that no harm would come to the temple itself. Once they were sure that it was not going to harm the real temple, the natives left the area. They said something about weird happenings around the ruins lately . . . not that anyone in the crew understood the language they were speaking in.

Dan had just enough room to make his big entrance. He would be breaking through the outside wall, and screaming like a . . . well, devil. He was listening to the chatter going on outside. The suit had some directional microphones built in near the earpieces that he could control. They were almost ready for him.

He sat, crouched in the darkness. Waiting for his cue.

Eric Williams was inside the temple itself. He was taking pictures of ancient script for Simon Stagg. He had used the latest movie as a way to get to the island of Ile Du Diable. He had just placed a carving that he tripped over back into its proper, or what he thought was its proper place in the wall. He heard hissing behind him. He turned and screamed.

Skeletal warriors were coming towards him.

"You have releassssssed the massssssssster . . . " The lead soldier hissed. "You will be rewarded . . . "

"Wha . . . wha . . . wha master . . . " Eric finally got out.

"Nebirossssssss . . . " They all hissed.

Eric heard a rumbling from behind him. The wall was beginning to glow.

Eric ran towards the entrance that he had used to get in. None of the skeletons were trying to stop him, so he moved as fast as he could.

Rex Mason groaned and shivered. Not because he was cold, but because he felt like someone had ran an icicle down his spine.

He had no idea where he was. All he knew was that he was in pain after falling into some sort of pool of light.

He felt around for his lantern, but there was nothing but sand.

"Why the hell is there sand here . . . I was on dirt before . . . " He mumbled before passing out cold again.

Wayne Tarrant, one of the stars of the movie. Was too far from where he was filming. He thought he had finished for the day, and had wandered along the beach. He was coming up on a raft that had washed up on shore. Dusk was settling in, and he pulled his flashlight from his belt.

He shined the light on the raft, and saw that there was a crate inside.

Outside the temple. Gopher and Sharon were standing back from the area that was marked for the breakout scene.

The second unit director called for action.

That's when they heard the rumbling.

James Jesse, who had built the Devil suit along with Dan Cassidy was heading to the temple when he heard "ACTION!"

The rumbling started immediately after that.

"That's not supposed to happen," he said as he picked the pace up. "We made sure that everything was stable in the suit."

Simon Williams and Irwin Schwab had started making their was into the other side of the temple from where the film crew had been working.

Simon was looking for his brother, and Irwin came along to help because he was a adrenaline junkie, and loved the thrill of the whole thing.

They had worked their way into the first chamber when the temple began to shake, and a loud rumbling sound came from the room in front of them.

"Whoop," Irwin mumbled. "What's he gone and done now?"

Simon looked at Irwin. "What is that hissing sound?"

Dane Whitman, the weapons expert being used on the movie had just finished meditating and was practicing his sword and shield work for the movie when the ground started to shake, and a low rumbling sound began to echo through the camp.

"What the . . . " he said, and ran off towards the direction the noise was coming from.

Dan heard the words he was waiting for. He tensed his body up and leaped at the wall with the force of a small tank. He hit the wall, and broke through. Screaming his gibberish dialog and screaming just like he had been told to do.
Eric looked back over his shoulder as Nebiros emerged from his dimensional prison.

Nebiros was a large creature with an insect like appearance.

Nebiros lunged for the nearest wall. "I WILL BE FREE!" The creature screamed as he broke through the wall.

His skeletal minions followed behind his . . . hissing all the way.

Norm Paxton could not believe what he was filming.

Dan had broken through his just constructed prison as planned. Another wall of the main temple had exploded out as well though, and a huge creature had came lumbering out of it.

"I AM NEBIROS!" it screeched.

Although Norm had a feeling that it was just speaking in its normal tones.

"PREPARE TO SATE MY HUNGER! I HAVE BEEN AWAY FROM MORTALS FOR TOO LONG! YOU WILL LEARN TO FEAR ME AGAIN."

Simon and Irwin were flattened by Eric as he came pushing past them.

"What the hell got into him?" Irwin asked as he got back to his feet.

Simon looked at him, or rather past him and barely uttered "Are those things really moving behind you?"

Dan could hear screaming coming from the film crew, and as good of an actor as he was, he knew they weren't screaming at him.

"What the hell is that?" he said as he noticed the huge creature knocking over equipment trying to get to one of the assistant cameramen. "That thing's not in the script."

He looked around trying to find something that might help him. He grabbed one of the stone blocks that he had just knocked over and threw it as hard as he could at the creature.

"HEY! OVER HERE SCUMBAG!" he screamed as the thing turned to find out who had tossed the stone at him.

"WHY DO YOU SEEK TO HARM ME LITTLE BROTHER?" Nebiros said as he took a few steps toward him.

"Crap, now what do I do?" Dan mumbled to himself.

Dane got to the temple in time to see Nebiros break free on one side, and Eric, Simon and then Irwin come running out of the other side.

Irwin had stopped and had grabbed something off of his belt. Dane looked a little closer . . . it was some sort of toy doll.

"Why the heck would he . . . " Dane never finished the thought. He noticed the skeletal creatures coming out of the temple after the brother and Irwin.

"Get outta here!" Irwin was yelling to Simon and Eric. "I'll hold 'em off."

Simon headed back towards camp. Trying to get his phone off of his belt.

Eric darted along the side of the temple . . . towards where Nebiros had emerged.

Irwin let the doll fall from his hand, and it hung from a string/rope of some kind. Dane could see now that it was a Cheeks the Toy Wonder doll.

"What is he up to?" Dane wondered as he ran towards him. Thankfully, he was still carrying his sword and shield from his practice session.

Dan had a moment of panic, but the heard James' voice over everything. "The explosive rounds in the Trident . . . "

They had created the Trident to hold several small explosive rounds to use during filming. All he had to do now was get to it. The Trident was back at the camp.

Nebiros had taken a few steps closer to Dan, and was prattling on about how they should join together and rule the pathetic human creatures.

Dan saw that Sharon and Sapphire had been taken out of harms way to the helipad, and were awaiting immediate evacuation. The chopper, would be here in a few minutes. Dan knew he had to buy them some time.

Wayne was trying to figure out what to do. He had tried dragging the crate in the raft along the beach, back to where the film crew was. But it was too heavy.

He finally realized that he could pull it back into the water and then push it along at a much quicker pace.

Sapphire kept up with him along the beach.

Irwin had taken out two of the skeletal warriors by the time Dane got to him.

"You're doin' pretty good with that thing," Dane said, referencing Irwin's Cheeks the Toy Wonder Doll.

"Yeah. I made a few modifications to him. I thought of maybe trying to be one of those superheroes once I get a few pieces of technology down to a decent size," Irwin said as he let Cheeks fly again, knocking one of the dog skeletons into pieces. "He's got a metal skull, and the zip cord allows him to come back no matter where I throw him. Watch this too . . . " Irwin threw the Doll at another warrior lumbering towards them. Cheeks' arms clasped the things leg. Irwin pulled, and the leg snapped off, and the skeleton fell in a heap. "Cool . . . huh?"

Dane smiled as he ran towards the creatures. He bashed one to the ground with his shield arm, and another lost its head to his sword. He looked at the one he had decapitated, and got a huge smile on his face. "Irwin, focus on their heads, it'll take the fight out of 'em."

Simon had gotten a call back to the airport, and the choppers were on their way. He could hear them, even over the din coming from the ruins.

Marla, Sharon, Sapphire, and Gopher were with him waiting.

Gopher's face lit up. "Dan needs the Trident!" he yelled as he broke free from the group and raced back towards camp.

"GOPHER! Come back!" Marla yelled as she and Sharon began to run after him.

Wayne came back to where the film crew had been. But they were gone. He could hear a commotion near where the camp was.

"Gotta start the party without me . . . don't they?" he said as he dragged the raft onto the land.

He started the long trek back to the camp. "Thanks for waiting, guys," he said to Sapphire. "Wasn't that nice of them?"

Java still trailed behind Wayne and Sapphire. He was happy that Sapphire didn't seem to like this actor. He would have had to hurt him otherwise. He wanted Sapphire for himself.
Gopher was running with the Trident in his hands and screaming to try to get Dan to notice him. He was a brave kid, but didn't want to get too close to that thing.

"Dan . . . here . . . " he yelled as he threw the Trident as hard as he could towards Dan.

Dan saw what Gopher had done, and swore that if he lived through this, he was gonna give the kid anything he wanted.

James saw the Trident flying through the air, and screamed at Nebiros to try to distract his attention.

Dan took the advantage and jumped towards Nebiros and used his back as a springboard to propel himself towards the Trident.

James ran into the temple as Nebiros turned towards him. Nebiros felt Dan bounce off of his back, and turned to face him again.

"COME LITTLE BROTHER, WHY DO YOU RESIST?" Nebiros bellowed.

Dan grabbed the Trident and did a somersault as he landed. Held the Trident towards the creature and fired a charge.

Dane and Irwin were doing well against the armies of skeletons coming out of the temple. They had been working their way around to where Dan was, because they knew that they would eventually need help.
The charge hit Nebiros in the mid section and staggered him backwards.

"FOOL! NOW YOU DIE!" the creature bellowed as loud as anything Dan had heard in his life.

Nebiros let loose with a blast of energy that missed Dan by inches. "Oh dear God, I felt that through the armor," Dan said as he ran towards cover of some sort.

Just then, Eric emerged from the side of the temple.

"YOU. YOU WERE THE ONE THAT FREED ME. REAP YOUR REWARD!" Nebiros shouted at Eric, who was now totally in shock and unmoving. A bolt of energy began moving at him.

Gopher began running and jumped as soon as he saw Eric was in harms way. The tackle moved Eric down and out of the direct line of fire.

"YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGH!"

Gopher looked at Eric. He thought he had gotten him out of there in time, and he had . . . barely. Eric's left arm was gone just below the elbow. His left arm had shot up after Gopher had hit him in a normal reactionary way. That had cost him dearly.

"ohmygod . . . ohmygod . . . ohmygod . . . ohmygod . . . ohmygod . . . ohmygod . . . " was the only thing that Eric could say.

Gopher was trying to get him to be quiet, but to no avail. He saw Simon working his way over to them. "Finally, an adult to take care of this idiot," he said under his breath.

Dan saw Gopher take Eric out of the direct line of fire, and had seen the poor man's arm be obliterated. He also saw Simon trying to make his way over to them.

"HEY UGLY!" Dan shouted using his voice adjuster. "OVER HERE!"

Dan shot three more charges at Nebiros, and two of them sent the creature backwards a few feet. The third landed and bounced off to the side of the temple, not going off.

Nebiros turned. His eyes were glowing.

"He's pissed . . . " Dan said to himself, as there was really nobody else to hear him over the bellowing roar coming from Nebiros.

He tried to anticipate the blast, and was wrong.

Dan was hit with a blast of energy that sent him flying end over end towards the camp. He hit the ground like a bag of dirt . . . and just laid there . . . not moving.

"DANNY!" Sharon cried out as Marla held her back.

Nebiros looked where the scream had came from.

"FRESH MEAT . . . "
