Blue Devil: The Movie
Part V: Nebiros Triumphant?!?!
by David Sopko
PG

Sharon Scott had just seen her boyfriend, Dan Cassidy, get blasted by a bolt of energy from a large creature calling itself Nebiros. She was being held back by Marla Bloom, the producer of the movie that they were on the Caribbean island of Ile Du Diable to film.

Unknown to them, one of their co-workers, Eric Williams, in an attempt to earn some money by taking pictures from within the temple located on the island had freed Nebiros from his prison of 3000 years.

That creature/demon was now looking at Sharon and Marla with a thirst in its eyes.

Dane Whitman and Irwin Schwab were busy fighting their way back to the others. They were barely holding back a seemingly endless stream of skeletal warriors that Nebiros had brought to life.

"We've got to get over there," Dane said and quickly pointed with his sword towards three other members of the film crew. Eric Williams, and Eddie Bloomberg. Eddie, or Gopher, had saved Eric's life a few moments ago. But Eric had lost the lower part of his left arm in the process. Simon Williams, Eric's younger brother, had just made it over to them, and was checking the state of his brother's arm.

"Let's go . . . whoop," Irwin said and swung his modified Cheeks the Toy Wonder doll at another skeletons head.

James Jesse, who had helped Dan build the Blue Devil suit, was currently climbing the wall inside of the temple. There were about 5 skeleton dogs trying to get to him. Barking a low guttural bark that sent shivers up and down his spine.

"Okay James ole boy . . . gotta figure out something here . . . gotta be a way to get myself outta this."

That's when he noticed the glowing carvings on the other wall.

Norm Paxton, the cinematographer of the movie, was still filming. Running all over and trying to keep a good shot going.

"Stupid old man . . . " he mumbled to himself. "Grew up on the streets of South Central to buy it on some fool island in the middle of the Caribbean. I'm quittin' if we get outta this."

The choppers had landed and were evacuating most of the rest of the crew off the island. Including the director, lighting, makeup, and the rest of the support group.
Wayne finally made the clearing in time to see the choppers taking off, a monster about to attack Sharon and Marla, Dan laying on the ground not moving, and Irwin and Dane fighting . . . skeletons.

"What in the . . . " he stammered and ran towards the camp. Sapphire followed close behind.

Dan heard somebody scream.

"Whosedere?" He said groggily.

He sat up and shook his head. "Man, what hit me?"

He looked around and saw Nebiros closing in on Marla and Sharon.

He leveled the Trident at him, and hit the button to fire. "Hey bug eyes!" he said as a blast of pure energy flew from the end of the trident straight at the creature.

"It doesn't do that . . . " he said as the blast hit Nebiros, knocking him backwards.

Dane and Irwin finally noticed that the skeletons were finally thinning out. Which was a good thing. They both had multiple small wounds, and were getting exhausted.

"We might actually do this," Irwin beamed.

"Yeah, we might," Dane said.

They were fighting back to back, in a rotating style.

Irwin noticed a charge from Dan's Trident lying on the ground. The Pin had stuck, and it hadn't discharged. "This might come in handy later," he said as he picked it up and shoved it in his pocket.

James was working his way around a ledge in the temple.

"Almost there," he said as he could see the three glowing carvings beneath him.

Dan blasted Nebiros again.

"Danny, be careful!" Sharon yelled.

Nebiros threw a backwards swat at the women, and knocked them into Marla's tent. Marla landed on the cot she had been using and wrenched her back a little, while Sharon hit her head on a footlocker and cut a good gash in her forehead.

James made it around the walls if the temple to the glowing carvings.

The first had a picture of a doorway.

The second had a picture of a skeleton on it.

The third had a picture of weapons on it.

He grabbed the second one immediately. "If this does what I think it does . . . " he whispered to himself.

The skeleton dogs that had been hounding him dropped in piles below him.

Outside of the temple, Dane and Irwin couldn't believe their eyes when the remaining skeletal warriors fell into big piles of bones. They both started laughing.
Nebiros felt that something had shifted his power.

He started back towards the temple. Someone was playing with his power.

Dan followed behind him, and they exchanged blasts as they went.

James grabbed the doorway carving next, and immediately felt a pull towards the opposite side of the room. He put the carving in a pouch he had on his belt.

A large portal had opened where a doorway had once been.

"That must be a way to send ugly mug home. Let's see what this is . . . " he said as he grabbed the last carving.

A stone moved to the side of him. There was a beautiful, jeweled handled sword in a scabbard.

He grabbed the sword and shield, and ran out of the temple as fast as he could.

Once outside, he ran into Irwin and Dane.

"Thank God I found you," he said to Dane as he thrust the sword towards him. "Here . . . do what you do with this thing. We gotta get it back into the temple . . . there's a portal to send it home in there. I think."

Irwin looked at them. "I got's me an idea too. Go. I'll be ready in a minute."

Dan could see the three of them talking, and surprisingly to him, if he focused . . . he could hear them.

Alright then, he thought, back into the temple with you.

Nebiros and Dan traded blast after blast.

Nebiros was in front of the opening he had busted in the wall, and could feel the mystic pull of the portal.

"NO! I WILL NOT GO BACK!"

"Sure you will," Dane said as he came running at him with sword flashing.

Nebiros fell back further. "WHERE DID YOU GET THAT INSECT?"

Dan and Dane drove the beast back further into the temple.

James was back into position by the carving . . . waiting for a chance to seal the creature in its prison.

He was no expert in hieroglyphics, but he was sure based on the drawings he was looking at, that the demon had to be all the way in the void before the door could be closed.

Norm was still filming.

I'm going to run out of tape soon. Hope I have another cassette. He thought as he tried to maneuver in for a better shot.

Nebiros grabbed Dane and threw him towards the temple.

He landed halfway up and slid to a walkway that circled the temple. Dane was sure he bruised a couple ribs in the process.

He looked around and found the blade teetering on the edge of the walkway. Looking around, he could see that the monster had done him a favor, as he could be right over the blown out entrance in a matter of seconds. Then he could do some real good.

Irwin saw Dane moving around towards the hole in the wall of the temple.

"Sacrifices have to be made, little one," he said to Cheeks. "I'm sorry."

He nodded Cheeks' head in agreement and ran towards where Dan was fighting Nebiros.

Dane jumped from the temple. Moving the sword down between his feet. He was able to place his feet on either side of the handle. It looked like he was on a pogo stick. But he wasn't planning on bouncing.

The blade struck Nebiros in the back towards his left shoulder, and the force of Dane's weight shoved it through the front of his chest. breaking a few of the creature's ribs along the way.

The monster flailed and screamed in anguish, throwing Dane from his back. It had never felt such pain. The sword was coming out of its chest, and its insides were on fire.

Dane landed hard, but was able to crawl to safety behind a small monument.

Irwin took the advantage and used the TNT charge he had found just a short while ago. He shoved it into the stuffing in Cheeks' back.

He threw Cheeks at the creature with every ounce of energy he had left. Hoping he timed this just right, and that he gave Dan enough time to recover.

"Goodbye lil buddy . . . " he said as Cheeks flew through the air.

Cheeks hit Nebiros and fell on the protruding sword in his chest, and stuck. His little arms wrapping tight around the blade.

Nebiros screamed again, and Cheeks detonated.

Nebiros staggered backwards toward the portal.

Dan got up off the ground and saw that this was his only shot at getting the creature through the portal. If he wasted a second, they were all doomed.

He charged Nebiros, with his Trident blasting energy as he ran.

He pummeled Nebiros with blast after blast. Not giving the monster a second to regain any footing or sense of stability.

"GET READY JAMES!" Dan yelled. "HE'S ALMOST THROUGH!"

Java watched from the safety of the jungle. He had spoken with his employer once again, and was told to keep out of site, unless Sapphire was in immediate danger.

He watched the fight progress, and fidgeted at the thought of something happening to Sapphire.

James watched, and waited for the monster to clear the door. It would only close if he was completely through, as far as he could tell from the markings on the wall.

But Nebiros was hanging onto the edges of the doorway.

"C'mon Danny, get him."

Wayne stumbled up behind Dan, trying to avoid the pull of the doorways vortex.. "What is that thing and why isn't he going through?"

"It's got too good a hold on the wall, but I can't let up the blasts, or he'll pull himself free. And if I get any closer, I'll get sucked in."

Wayne picked up a rock and threw it at Nebiros. It picked up a great deal of speed as it entered the vortex and knocked into the beast's head. Causing it to curse at them in some unknown language.

"Keep doing that, Wayne. See if you can hit him again."

Wayne kept throwing rocks, but they lost control once they entered the pull of the vortex. They were hitting Nebiros, but missing his one hand.

"I'll be back," he said as he ran out of the temple.

"WAYNE! GET BACK HERE . . . " Dan screamed. "I need your help!"

Outside, as Wayne charged past, Marla picked Gopher up to his feet, and put his right arm over her shoulder. Sapphire came over and helped support his other side.

Simon was applying pressure to the cut on Sharon's forehead.

"Head wounds are bleeders, but it should be okay," he said reassuringly. "A few little stitches and you'll be good as new.

Wayne was running to the camp frantically. He searched for Dane's tent, and ran in.

He emerged with a practice sword that Dane had brought along.

"This'll do . . . " he said as he bolted back to the temple.

Nebiros was slowly making progress in moving back through the doorway.

"I WILL PEEL THE FLESH FROM YOUR . . . " it began to rant, but stopped suddenly as it turned its eyes toward the open wall in the temple.

Dan noticed its eyes grow wider, and saw a person run by him with something in his hand.

"Wayne . . . don't!" James screamed.

"Wayne . . . you idiot. Get out of the way!" Dan yelled as Wayne ran full force at the creature.

Dan had to stop blasting, for fear of hitting Wayne. But then he saw what the man was doing.

"Godspeed, Wayne. You always wanted to be the hero," Dan said quietly. Then he turned his head and screamed, "JAMES . . . GET READY! HE'S GONNA DO IT!"

With Dan having stopped the blasts, Nebiros was free to let go of the doorway and start to steady his rattled body.

Dan readied for one final blast.

Wayne jumped at Nebiros. Sword out in front of him, and stuck the beast right in the left eye.

Nebiros screamed and began to fall back . . . Dan blasted the floor immediately in front of the monster, causing it and Wayne to fall into the doorway . . . James grabbed the carving from it's base and removed it.

The portal closed.

Everything was quiet.

Fifteen minutes later, when everyone finally gathered enough strength to move again, everything was still quiet.

James came over to Dan and put his hand on his shoulder. "Wayne done good."

"That he did." Dan said as he wiped his brow. "Man, do I feel odd though. Haven't been able to stop for two seconds before now to notice . . . but I feel really odd."

They made their way back to camp . . . or at least what was left of it.

Irwin had made his way back, and had helped Dane, who was limping on his left leg.

Marla, Simon, Sharon, Sapphire, and Gopher were all sitting around a campfire shivering. They were trying to warm themselves from the chill they felt deep in their souls.

Eric was lying on a cot in the tent that was still standing. He was in deep shock, but the wound had cauterized itself, so there was no major blood loss.

All that could looked up at Dan and James as they approached.

"Where are Wayne and Norm?" Marla asked.

"I'm not sure about Norm, I saw him running around during everything, but I know where Wayne went . . . " Dan said feeling a lump in his throat. "He isn't coming back with us. I'm sorry."

Tears came down some cheeks. Others just looked at him in disbelief.

"I'm here," Norm said as he walked up behind the two. "Wayne had his finest performance. I got the film right here to prove it."

He handed the film to Marla, and sat down putting his head in his hands.

She held up the cassette tape in her hand. "Is this the whole fight, Norm?"

"Nah," he said softly, "just the last few minutes, when I was finally able to get around to see that thing in the doorway. Got the rest of it on another tape in my pocket. That's just from about when Wayne ran out, and then came back in with Dane's sword."

She looked at each and every one in the circle. They all knew what she was silently asking, and they all nodded in agreement.

"Goodbye, Wayne," she said and tossed the cartridge in the flames.

They stood around for a while. Nobody saying anything.

Dan finally broke the silence when his hearing picked up a distinct noise of chopper blades in the distance. "I suppose we should get the pilots over here to get Eric and the others back for some medical attention. I hear them coming again. Besides, I need to get out of this outfit . . . I'm roasting in it."

"I'm pretty roasted too," James said as he removed his hand from Dan's shoulder. "Probably too much heat energy flying around in that place."

James suddenly got a weird look on his face. He rubbed his fingers together, looked at Dan and said, "Dan, why is the suit sweating?"
