"Why does it matter, Simon? I'm not doing anything illegal."
"Yet," Simon said as he rubbed his eyes with his index fingers. "If you've gotten us involved with Simon Stagg . . . "
"Stagg?" Eric said shooting a glance at Simon. "Is that what you're worried about? What if I did? It's not your problem either way, little brother. The end result helps us and our father's ailing business venture."
Eric turned the wheel sharp and they switched lanes.
"Now," Eric said as he cut through two more lanes of traffic, "no more talk about this. We have a movie to oversee."
"Finished what?" Marla Bloom, the producer of the Blue Devil movie asked.
Irwin produced an item from his pocket. "It took three days, but I was able to duplicate the latest digital tech into this beauty." He held in his hand what looked like a slightly oversized bug. It took up about 1/3 of his palm. "And watch this."
He threw it into the air towards where they were sitting. It went up, started to go down, and then hovered. "Cool, huh?" He said as the remote camera started buzzing around the main part of the jet.
Irwin ran to the front and plugged something into the DVD port. The screen in the front of the cabin lit up and they could see what the bug could see.
"Why isn't he working at a nanotech lab somewhere?" Marla asked Dan Cassidy.
"ADD, from what I can tell."
Rex Mason turned to see several creatures moving towards him. They looked like skeletons of humans and animals. Some with loose fitting robes hanging from them. Some of them were carrying shields and swords, and these were the ones leading the advance.
"I think there's been a mistake here . . . " Rex said once he found his voice.
"The misssssstake issssss yoursssssssss!" Another one of the creatures said as they began their run towards him.
Rex turned to run, but there were more blocking the way he had came in.
"No esssssssscape . . . " one hissed.
Rex looked around. There was only one way out that he could think of, and that way was up.
He began climbing the nearest wall.
Dan Cassidy was reading the script for the Blue Devil movie once again, and going over lines with his girlfriend Sharon Scott.
Wayne Tarrant was using the time to try to hit on Sapphire Stagg.
Irwin was sitting alone in the back, doing some modifications to a small red doll with a big C on its chest.
Marla was talking with Norm and the director about what they were going to start with.
Dane was going over his equipment. Both the real and training pieces that he had brought.
Simon and Eric were busy taking calls and answering e-mails.
Eddie, or Gopher as most of them called him, was watching a movie on the big screen.
"I gotta get out of here and warn the others," he said to himself.
"There issssss no esssscape from Nebirosssssssssssssss!" the creatures all hissed in unison.
Rex looked down and saw that they were starting to climb the wall after him. His foot slipped at that point and knocked an odd looking carving out of a hole in the wall.
"WHO DARES ENTER MY TEMPLE!" a voice rumbled through Rex's body. "BEGONE! I HAVE NO USE FOR ONE AS YOURSELF! I NEED A TAINTED SOUL TO FREE ME!"
The creatures ran, scurrying back to where they had emerged from.
Rex thought he had better get out while there was nothing to stop him.
He let go of the wall to jump to the ground, but never hit bottom. His feet went into a swirling vortex that appeared beneath him, and as he entered it, he felt like he was being pulled apart.
Tatsu Yamashiro walked calmly up to the window of her hotel room.
She a variety of weapons spread throughout the costume that she had crafted for herself.
Armor plates in the right areas. A mask to insure that she was not seen.
She was ready to begin her search.
She climbed out onto the fire escape and went to the roof.
"There's where his tent was," Dan said as they walked from the chopper. "He's probably on the other side of the island sifting through some artifacts."
Marla looked over the area. "This is a perfect site, Eric. How'd you hear about it again?"
Eric looked up and simply said something about the internet.
"Let's get some things set for tonight's first shots," the director boomed.
"Hey?" Irwin screamed from up near the top of the temple. "Hey Eric . . . get out of the way. You're messing up my shots."
Eric looked up and shrugged. "Sorry, Irwin, my mistake." He then turned to a doorway that seemed to be slightly ajar. A grin came over his face.
It hit him full force. That's what was going on. That's what Eric was doing. Paying off Dad's debt to Simon Stagg. Except Stagg would do anything to get his point across.
"Dad . . . I gotta call you back later," he said as he disconnected the call. He started running towards the camp to find Eric.
"CUT!" the director yelled into his megaphone. "That was good, Wayne. Let's switch filming some of the close-ups of the tribal warriors still loyal to the Blue Devil."
The crew began the process of turning the lights and camera positions to accommodate the shot.
"This is gonna take a while. Do you mind if we go walk along the beach for a bit?" Wayne asked in a childish spoiled actor kind of way.
"Go ahead, but stay close, okay . . . there are some wild animals on this island."
"See if you can get the mouth and eye pieces a little closer, so we don't need to blend quite as much," James said.
Dan had what looked like goggles over his eyes. They were invisible to the naked eye, but they were there, and a variety of lenses could be utilized from the forehead appliance.
Dan picked up what looked like a piece of candy. "This is gonna suck," he said as he popped it into his mouth.
A light blue foam began to leak from his mouth and he bent over to spit the rest of it out. "How's that look?" he asked as he stood up, smiled and then stuck out his tongue. "Aaaaahhhhh . . . "
"Good," the makeup person said. "Everything is blue. Let's put the teeth in.
The pearly white "devil's" teeth were fitted into place. Fangs and all.
"Perfect. At least I'm not biting myself," Dan said as he clicked his new teeth together.
Irwin was walking into camp from the ruins. "Hey, Simon," he said in a typically hushed voice. "I saw your brother hanging around the ruins. What's up?"
"I've got to find him before he does something stupid," Simon said with a panicked look on his face as he raced off from where Irwin had just come.
Irwin threw his equipment in his tent, and made sure that he still had what he needed attached to his belt. "You need any help finding him. Whoop!" He yelled as he felt his heart start pumping overtime. Something seemed to be wrong, and the adrenaline junkie in him was kicking in.
"Alright, Gopher. I'll be right out to see our Blue Devil in action," she said as she looked around. She was getting worried about Rex. It wasn't unlike him to disappear for days at a time . . . but he knew they would be here today, and that would have meant he should have been there to greet them, or at least left some clue as to where he was at. He had left his phone and GPS device in his tent. "He probably just lost track of time looking for more ruins," she thought to herself as she left her tent.
"THE BLUE DEVIL IS READY!!!!" His voice boomed through the small valley they were in. He smiled. The voice adjuster was working perfectly. It gave his voice a deep, reverberating quality. "LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!"
He was flashing his light around looking for inscriptions. He saw them all over. "Better get busy," he said pulling his picture phone out of his pocket.
He began taking pictures and sending them to Stagg. After a short while, be almost tripped over something. "What's this?" he asked to nobody in particular as he bent down and picked up a bizarre shaped carving. "Looks like a devil's head . . . and it looks like it fell from this spot."
Eric placed the carving into the indentation on the wall. "Now back to work."
That's when he heard the hissing voices behind him.
