Continuum Worlds

When Sedona woke up, and could finally be aware of her surroundings, she was still rather hazy. The last thing she remembered was the Asian woman in her room. Everything after that felt like a dream. Although she was pretty sure the woman called herself Mother Mai.

The first thing Sedona noticed, was the chains holding her arms above her head. She started struggling with them as soon as she felt the cold metals against her wrists. Looking around, she could tell she was in some sort of sanctuary with a large pentagram in the center of the room. Seeing the pentagram made her stomach tighten up. Sedona had been in the business long enough to know that such symbols painted on floors never led to anything good. Mother Mai was in the center of it, chanting something.

Silas Androvich walked into the room at that point, carrying a man in his arms. Mother Mai pauses for a moment. "Is that Blaze?" she asked.

Silas nodded. "Yes, Mother."

Mother Mai nodded as well and resumed her incantations. Silas took Blaze to an alter in the front of the room and laid him down. In one swift motion, he pulled a knife out of his coat.

"You fucktard, we never should have trust you!" Sedona yelled.

Silas turned to face the girl, walking closer to her with the knife drawn. He had an evil grin on his face. "Stupid girl. No one should trust me."

Sedona did the only thing she can do, and spit in Silas' face. Silas slapped Sedona and turned back to the alter. He wiped the spit off with his coat sleeve and set the knife down. He turned slightly, and while Mother Mai was still chanting, threw the gem that he used to capture the host of Ghost Rider into the middle of the pentagram.

As the gem hit the floor, it shattered into a dozen pieces, releasing a purple mist in a sudden outburst that erased the pentagram from the floor. Sedona grabbed on to her chains a little tighter. Mystical energy was erupting all over the room.

The energy, though, was enough to transform Blaze. When Silas turned back around, he was no longer facing Johnny Blaze. Instead, a very pissed off Ghost Rider was standing in his place.

"Oops," Silas muttered, realizing that something was not going according to plan.

But Ghost Rider was looking past Silas, instead concentrating more on Mother Mai.

"YOU!" he shouted, swinging his chain. "You are the one responsible for this travesty!"

"Put down the chain," Mother Mai commanded, holding her hand up.

"I think not," Ghost Rider replied, still swinging his chain and finally letting it go. It wrapped itself tightly around Mother Mai.

Silas took advantage of the fact he was being ignored. He ran over to where Sedona was being held and started undoing her chains.

"Come to your senses?" Sedona asked.

"Hardly, girl, I'm just saving my ass," Silas replied as she stared into her eyes. "Sleep."

Sedona fell unconscious immediately and Silas draped her over his shoulder and starting making his way towards the back of the sanctuary.

On the other side of the room, the Midnight Sons rushed in. Duane and Torrance were leading the way, with Dan and Leslie right behind them.

"Over there," Torrance said, pointing.

"Wait," Duane said, holding his sword out so no one could pass by.

The energy had built up into a mighty crescendo, and the room was bright.

"Repent!" Ghost Rider exclaimed.

"No!" Mother Mai yelled, followed by an unworldly scream as she was consumed by the spirit of vengeance and the energy started filling the entire room.

At first, the Midnight Sons were in shock at what they were seeing, but then Duane saw Silas drop down into a trap door. He had Sedona slung over his shoulder.

"Over there!" he shouted as he ran head first for the trap door, not paying any mind to the energy filling the room. Torrance followed immediately after him. They both jumped right into the cavern below.

Leslie and Dan were a little more cautious. They ran over and peered down into the tunnel.

"Bull headed guys," Leslie muttered.

Down below, in the tunnel . . .

Torrance and Duane was chasing after Silas as fast as they could. They saw Silas put up his hand behind him as he ran.

Suddenly, Torrance stopped, as if he hit a wall, and started floating in mid-air. Duane turned and looked back.

"What happened?"

"Must be some sort of spell," Torrance replied. "But it only got me . . . "

Duane started walking back. "Let's see if – "

"No!" Torrance exclaimed. "You keep going. The others will probably be down soon enough and can get me down. Go save Sedona!"

As Leslie and Dan continued to peer down into the tunnel, Dan asked, "Do you think it's safe?"

Grandfather spoke to Leslie, "I sense nothing of danger down there. Just an escape route."

"I haven't heard those guys scream for their lives," Leslie replied. "And I'm not seeing a light show down there like I am up here."

"Good point," Dan said. "After you."

"And here I thought chivalry was dead," Leslie said, jumping into the tunnel.

Leslie landed in the tunnel and started running. She could already see some light up ahead, and instantly knew that it was not the end of the tunnel. There had to be a spell at work. Behind her, she could hear the soft thud of Dan landing as well.

"Leslie? That you?" she could hear someone call.

"Thor?" Leslie asked as she turned a corner, and saw her friend suspended in midair.

"It's a binding spell," Grandfather said.

"I'm here, Leslie. Silas stopped me with something," Torrance replied.

"Where's Duane?"

"He got through somehow."

"Silas only did a spell on one of you?"

"The other boy must be immune."

"Or somehow immune," Leslie added.

Dan ran up to the two. "Can you get him down?" he asked Leslie.

"I can try. But Silas has some pretty powerful magic at his disposal."

"Just listen to me for once, granddaughter, and I will help your friend."

As Duane emerged from the tunnel, he saw Silas placing Sedona in the back of a black SUV.

"Hey!" he shouted as he ran forth and tackled Silas.

The two rolled around in the dirt a bit until Silas was able to push Duane off of him. Silas stood up and chanted a spell. Duane rolled to the side and was able to avoid it.

"What the hell?" Silas muttered under his breath. "Oh, fuck it." Not sure why his spell did not work, he pulled a revolver from the back of the SUV and started shooting it in Duane's general direction.

"Shit!" Duane shouted, ducking for cover behind some bushes. He let out a scream as one of the bullets hit him in the right arm.

Silas smiled, satisfied that he at least slowed down his former pupil and slammed the back of the vehicle shut. He ran around to the driver's side and got in the SUV, driving off.

Inside the cavern, Leslie and Grandfather had just freed Torrance from the spell Silas had cast.

"It happened so fast," Torrance said.

"This is starting to get heavy," Dan added. "I mean, did you just see the lady disappear up there?"

"You get used to a lot of weird shit in this business," Torrance replied. "But now's not the time to discuss. We gotta save Sedona from Silas."

It was at that moment that they heard the gunshots from outside the tunnel.

"Go!" Torrance shouted as all three ran as fast as they could.

As they exited the tunnel, they saw Silas drive away. His SUV kicked the dust up for miles.

"Where's Duane?" Dan asked.

The three Midnight Sons heard a groan in the bushes.

"Over there!" Leslie answered.

Leslie was getting ready to kneel beside Duane when he stood up on his own. He was still clutching his arm.

"Dude, you've been shot," Dan said.

"I'm fine," Duane replied. "Just a graze, I think."

"If you three have it under control, I'm going after Silas," Torrance said. "We're going to need all the backup we can get on this one. Dan, you go find Blade. Leslie, get ahold of Ariana. Duane, whatever you have on this Order of ‘N', we're gonna need it."

"Sure thing," Duane said, pulling his cell phone out and handing it to Torrance. "Here, you're going to need this more than I will."

"Thanks. You okay?"

"I will be. Now, go!"

Torrance turned and took off. As soon as he was out of eyesight of his teammates, he started his transformation.

Just then, Ghost Rider came roaring through the cavern, with a powerful yell.

As he skidded to a stop, the Midnight Sons just looked at him.

"A little anticlimactic," Duane said. "The bad guy's already run off."

"I can sense him," Ghost Rider replied, gripping his handlebars, revving the bike up.

"Hey, wait!" Leslie shouted over the roar of the motorcycle. "We already have one of our guys going after him. And I know with that bike, you'll catch up in no time, but we need a little help here."

Ghost Rider looked at the dust trail Silas had left behind, and then back to his newfound allies.

"What do you require?" he asked.

"Take Dan here back to the front of the building, where he can get our van. Then, Dan, I need you to come back here and get us and take us back to Ariana's."

"Very well," Ghost Rider replied.

"By the way," Leslie continued, "what happened up there?"

"Vengeance was served. Mother Mai is no more."

Up ahead, Silas was enjoying the drive. Even though it was nighttime, he was still wearing his mirrored sunglasses. He could see perfectly well even with them on. The radio was blaring, and Silas hummed along.

He started to smile as he passed a familiar billboard.

"The Tranverse Chamber of Commerce hopes you had a pleasant visit in Transverse. Please come back soon!"

"Not likely," Silas uttered. "Not when my city will rise up."

Silas looked in his side mirror and saw something in the distance. Whatever it was, it looked like it was trying to follow him.

No matter, Silas thought. I'm only moments away from glory.

Some ways behind Silas' SUV, Torrance Angus was in full wolf form, racing at a breakneck speed. Everything was on the line this time.

And there was only one thought racing through Torrance's mind.

Stop Silas Androvich!
